The best-laid plans.Today I was going to start a series of blogs called Writer’s Diary. My intention was to tell you about the way I build a story. Not an instructional blog, but an insight into the way I work. I planned to start by talking about subplots because that’s what I have been struggling withContinue reading “When technology fails”

Appreciating my neighbourhood
Facebook reminded me yesterday that it is eighteen years since we made the descsion to buy this house. We had first viewed it a couple of months earlier, and we were on our second viewing trip in the area. After a couple of days, we realised that each time we saw a house; we comparedContinue reading “Appreciating my neighbourhood”
Out in nature: A resolution
Is it a failed walk or a successful day out? You decide. This is a story about failure and eventual success. (Kind of) so I’ll start with an explanation and a resolution.About eight years ago, I discovered I had a back problem. Resolutions or Not?
Do you make New Year’s resolutions? I always have done in the past simply because I like to start the new year with a plan. Esther stopped. The man’s face was grotesque, his mouth open, and his eyes wide open as though surprised. It was horrible but strangely mesmerising. She took a step forward, intending to check the man’s pulse, but Mel pulled her back.
“Stop, look” The zookeeper pointed at the radiator around which was coiled a long black snake. Both women backed out and closed the door behind them.
“Is it poisonous and did it bite him?” she asked as much to herself as the other woman.
New year resolutions Part 4
At last I have reached the final five resolutions. The nice thing about this time of year is that everything represents potential. We know that spring is coming and the days are getting longer, but we don’t see it yet. Instead, we look hopefully for the first buds. We peer at the sky in theContinue reading “New year resolutions Part 4”
New year resolutions part 3
Here are the next five resolutions. The most interesting are the tongue-in-cheek ones. Turning those into something possible and practical has been inspiring and I am looking forward to my writing year. 1) Invent a completely new crime genre. Create a new sub-genre of crime fiction that becomes an instant sensation (Tongue in cheek).Crime isContinue reading “New year resolutions part 3”
